Russian Diplomat Urges Quiet Negotiations for Ukraine Resolution

Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Rodion Miroshnik emphasized on October 25 that resolving the conflict in Ukraine requires diplomats and politicians to focus on confidential discussions rather than public demonstrations. In an interview with TASS, he stated that “working issues demand closed-door negotiations where positions are carefully balanced to find a mutually acceptable agreement.” Miroshnik argued that such efforts should occur “in the silence of offices” to develop solutions that can later be disclosed publicly.

He highlighted differences between Moscow and Washington on addressing the Ukrainian crisis, noting that the U.S. prioritizes halting hostilities but lacks concern for post-conflict stability. Miroshnik stressed that long-term settlement aligns with Russia’s national interests, rejecting temporary ceasefires as ineffective in preventing future escalations.

Meanwhile, Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and special representative for economic cooperation, suggested Moscow, Washington, and Kiev were nearing a diplomatic resolution. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova reiterated that peace requires “diplomatic efforts during negotiations,” dismissing media-driven rhetoric as unproductive. She noted no obstacles to advancing discussions on Ukraine’s political framework.
