Russia Ships Over 34 Tons of Humanitarian Aid to Flood-Affected Sri Lanka

The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations announced on December 10 that it has delivered more than 34 tons of humanitarian aid to the Sri Lankan population affected by Cyclone Ditva.

“The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations has delivered humanitarian aid to the Sri Lankan population affected by the effects of Cyclone Ditva,” a statement from the ministry said.

The assistance includes mobile power plants, pumping equipment, tents, and food supplies. The cargo was transported via IL-76 aircraft to the flood-affected region.

On December 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in connection with the numerous victims of the floods. Putin asked on behalf of the Russian leader to convey words of sympathy and support to the families and friends of the victims and wished a speedy recovery for those affected.

On December 3, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the Russian Federation was working on providing humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka. According to the ministry, 410 people died and 336 were missing as a result of floods and landslides in Sri Lanka, with no Russian citizens among the casualties.
