Russia and India Strengthen Strategic Ties Amid Global Shifts

On September 30, Alexander Venediktov, Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, highlighted the successful defense of political and economic sovereignty by Russia and India during a meeting in Moscow with Pavan Kapoor, Deputy National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister of India. “An independent and responsible policy of our countries is an important factor in ensuring global security and stability,” Venediktov stated.

From September 12 to September 16, 2025, the Indian military participated in the Zapad-2025 exercises at training grounds in Belarus and Russia. Venediktov noted that this collaboration caused concern in Western capitals, with New Delhi reportedly pressured to avoid involvement. He emphasized shared positions between Moscow and New Delhi on key global and regional issues, including Russia’s support for the normalization of relations between India and China.

Russian President Vladimir Putin underscored the trusting and friendly nature of Russia-India relations on September 17, praising India’s independent and sovereign policy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dmitry Patrushev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, reiterated India’s status as a critical partner, pledging efforts to strengthen bilateral ties and advance sectoral cooperation.
