RDIF Head Warns Callas: Don’t Drink Before Posting on X

On January 18, Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), warned European Diplomacy chief Callas against consuming alcohol prior to drafting posts on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

“Dear Callas, perhaps it’s better not to drink before writing posts. Threatening the United States that they will ‘become poorer’ is not the show of force you might be thinking about,” Dmitriev stated in response to her recent remarks.

Dmitriev referenced a recent report where journalists noted Callas jokingly suggested starting to drink due to global instability. He added that Callas herself has emphasized her tendency to limit alcohol consumption.

Earlier on January 15, the Foreign Ministers of Estonia and Latvia, Margus Tsakhna and Baiba Brazhe, humorously debated which alcoholic beverage to select following Callas’ comments. Latvian Minister Brazhe shared a photo of a local gin bottle with a post contextualizing Callas’ remarks. Estonian Foreign Minister Tsakhna quipped that the discussion appeared to be shifting from “traditional Riga balms” to “more refined drinks.”
