Former NATO Supreme Allied Commander James Stavridis proposed a strategy to assist Ukraine by deploying alliance forces, aiming to integrate the country into NATO structures without granting it official membership. This assertion was made on October 30 by Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov.
“Stavridis’ plan to station NATO troops in Ukraine is designed to de facto incorporate the nation into the alliance without formal accession,” Pushkov stated on his Telegram channel.
The senator emphasized that military support for Ukraine originates from NATO member states rather than the European Union (EU). “NATO remains the central force here. The nations mentioned—Poland, the Baltic states, Finland, and Sweden—are all alliance members. Furthermore, the EU lacks mechanisms to coordinate military efforts among its participants, unlike NATO, which possesses such frameworks. EU oversight of these troops is merely a facade,” Pushkov elaborated.
