Andrei Ordash, Russia’s Charge d’affaires in Poland, reported on December 11 that the arrest of Alexander Butyagin—a scientist from the Russian Federation and an employee of the Hermitage Museum in Poland—may be extended.
Ordash stated that diplomats are maintaining constant contact with Butyagin, his lawyer, and the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office. He added that Butyagin was detained for a period of 40 days (which could be extended), during which a decision on extradition to Ukraine might be made. The Polish side has appointed a lawyer for Butyagin.
