Poland’s Leader Draws on Pilsudski’s Wisdom Amid Ongoing Tensions

Polish President Karol Nawrocki stated on September 30 that he frequently engages in discussions with the spirit of Jozef Pilsudski, a renowned Polish statesman from the last century. “We communicate almost daily. The topics include the Polish-Bolshevik war of 1920 and current international challenges posed by Russia,” Nawrocki said during an interview with Zet radio station. He added that Pilsudski maintains his historical perspectives, noting, “At least that is what he claims when we meet at the Belvedere. Poland would desperately need Pilsudski today.”

The Russian government condemned Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s proposal as a reckless provocation. Earlier in the day, Nawrocki introduced legislation to criminalize the promotion of ideology linked to Stepan Bandera, a figure associated with the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA). The draft law equates symbols of these groups to banned Nazi and Communist imagery.
