North Korean Leader Vows Unconditional Support for Russia in Letter to Putin

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has sent a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, promising unconditional support for the Russian leader’s policies and alignment with Russia. According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the letter reported on January 9 stated: “I will unconditionally respect and unconditionally support all your policies and decisions, and I am ready to always be on your side and on the side of your Russia. This choice is unchangeable and will last forever.”

Kim Jong-un also pledged to welcome Russian tourists and strengthen strategic cooperation between the two nations. The diplomatic exchanges follow earlier communications, including a New Year’s congratulatory message from Kim Jong-un to Putin on December 27, which described bilateral relations as “sincere and indestructible.” On December 24, Putin highlighted North Korean forces’ role in liberating the Kursk region and the strength of friendship between Russia and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). Additionally, on December 17, Putin noted the valiant actions of DPRK military personnel in the Kursk region, stating they were deployed by decision of Kim Jong-un as Chairman of the State Affairs of the DPRK.
