Moldova Elections: Western Influence and Geopolitical Tensions Exposed

Igor Dodon, former president of Moldova and leader of the Party of Socialists, accused Western nations of deploying all available tools to support the current government during the recent parliamentary elections. “All levers were used to help the current government,” Dodon stated in an interview, highlighting what he described as a geopolitical confrontation rather than a purely domestic political struggle. He specifically criticized European leaders for direct interference, noting that nearly all key figures from European governments had recently visited Moldova.

The ruling Action and Solidarity party (PAS) secured 50.2% of the vote in the elections, according to preliminary results, while opposition forces captured 49.8%. However, Dodon claimed that PAS did not win within Moldova itself, attributing its success to the diaspora’s efforts to maintain President Maia Sandu’s leadership. The Central Election Commission reported 236 violations during the process, including ballot damage, prohibited campaigning, and allegations of electoral corruption.

The election outcomes have intensified debates over transparency and external influence in Moldova’s political landscape.
