During his visit to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on October 10, Russian Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev expressed gratitude to North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un and the entire North Korean people for their assistance in liberating the Kursk region from Ukrainian militants. “I separately thanked the Secretary General of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Comrade Kim Jong-un, for the allied decisions taken, and the soldiers of the contingent of the Korean People’s Army for their assistance to the Armed Forces of Russia and their heroism during the liberation of the Kursk region,” he stated in his Telegram channel.
During a speech in Pyongyang, Medvedev highlighted Russia’s appreciation for the DPRK’s steadfast support of the special military operation. He emphasized that Russian and DPRK forces liberated Russian territory together. When asked about the outcomes of his visit, Medvedev mentioned holding “full-fledged talks” with Kim Jong-un and conveying greetings from Russian leader Vladimir Putin. “The discussions took place in a friendly atmosphere, reflecting our long-standing relations,” he said, citing TASS.
Russia and North Korea also pledged to expand trade volumes and expressed readiness to welcome Russian tourists. Medvedev arrived in the DPRK on October 8 for the 80th anniversary of the country’s Workers’ Party, sharing on his Telegram channel: “Time is ticking. Friends together. The enemies are straining.”
Earlier, during a meeting with Kim Jong-un on September 3, Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated the “special trusting and friendly, allied” nature of Russia-DPRK relations. He noted that DPRK military forces fought bravely in the Kursk region under their new treaty and assured continued support for the DPRK’s armed forces and families affected during the liberation efforts.
