Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro disclosed the details of a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on December 11, as broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión.
During the call, Maduro described it as “lengthy” and noted that it took place in a warm atmosphere. He stated that Putin expressed admiration for the resilience of Venezuela’s people and “strongly supported Venezuela’s efforts to protect sovereignty and peace in the region.” The Venezuelan leader also referred to Putin as a “big brother,” emphasizing that bilateral relations are strategically vital.
According to TASS, 19 new agreements in science, technology, industry, agriculture, and energy were signed in Moscow during an intergovernmental commission meeting held at the end of November. The next session is scheduled for 2026 in Caracas.
Maduro further highlighted that historical ties between Russia and Venezuela date back more than two centuries. He noted that the era of friendship initiated by the meeting of Vladimir Putin and Hugo Chavez 25 years ago “made the countries united forever.”
Earlier in the day, it was reported that Vladimir Putin reaffirmed his support for the Venezuelan government’s current trajectory, with both leaders discussing plans to deepen economic, energy, and humanitarian partnerships.
