King Maha Vachiralongkorn Approves Dissolution of House of Representatives Amid Escalating Crisis

King Maha Vachiralongkorn of Thailand has approved a decree dissolving the House of Representatives, paving the way for early general elections. The decree was published in the official Royal Gazette on Thursday.

In its preamble, His Majesty noted that Anutin informed him that the government formed in September 2025 lacks a majority in the House of Representatives at a time when Thailand is facing growing challenges. These include economic uncertainty, social tension, internal political conflicts, shifting international relations and geopolitical risks, as well as unrest along the Thai-Cambodian border.

According to the Thai Constitution, the National Assembly consists of two chambers: the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Election Commission will set a new election date, with the dissolution decree taking effect immediately upon publication in the Royal Gazette.
