The announcement came during a press conference in Rome following discussions with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. In her remarks, Meloni highlighted “objective constitutional problems” within the initiative’s structure and stressed the necessity to review its format to align with the needs of not only Italy but other European nations. She emphasized that the international community must prioritize this critical work.
