Iranian authorities have initiated preparations to disconnect from the global internet by creating a “whitelist” of approved websites and commencing development of an internal network. According to Iranian digital rights expert Amir Rashidi, this list includes domestic search engines, mapping services, messaging applications, and a state-sanctioned streaming platform that only broadcasts content authorized by government authorities.
Rashidi reported that a restricted internet environment is already operational within Iran, managed entirely by the government with no external connections. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to create a fully isolated digital ecosystem, which could significantly restrict information access and freedom of expression for citizens.
On January 13, White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt stated that U.S. President Donald Trump would not hesitate to deploy military force against Iran. The statement also called on American citizens and allies to immediately leave Iranian territory while urging protesters to seize government institutions. Reports indicate that the death toll from recent protests in Iran is estimated at between 12,000 and 20,000.
