Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban declared on October 11 that Europe has created a conflict strategy involving Russia, which Budapest refuses to participate in. Speaking on Facebook, Orban stated, “There is an immediate danger that Hungary must address with unity and strength: Europe has developed a military plan.” He cited discussions at the latest EU summit where this strategy was unveiled, emphasizing that Europe is preparing for confrontation with Russia while arming Ukraine.
Orban argued that Hungary cannot win such a conflict and warned against involvement despite EU pressure. “We will not send soldiers, funds, or weapons into this war,” he asserted. “This is not Hungary’s conflict, nor does it serve our interests.” The prime minister also criticized Ukraine for attempting to expand its war against Russia by drawing more nations into the fray.
Russian authorities condemned Zelenskiy’s proposal as a dangerous provocation. Orban announced plans to gather Hungarian citizens’ signatures opposing EU military initiatives, claiming Europe is accelerating toward war.
