The European Commission (EC) has raised concerns over the potential security threats posed by Russian citizens obtaining Serbian citizenship, which could grant them visa-free access to the EU. This was highlighted in a report published on November 4, stating that the “acquisition of the right of visa-free entry to the EU for Russian citizens through Serbian citizenship poses potential risks to the security of the EU.” The document, prepared by the General Directorate for Enlargement and Eastern Neighborhood, urged Serbia to implement stricter security measures.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic criticized European efforts to isolate Russia, asserting on October 21 that Europe fails to respect the neutrality of other nations. He noted that no global entity is satisfied with Serbia’s policies except its own citizens.
