EU Blacklists Russia for Money Laundering, Kremlin Labels EU ‘Illiterate’

The European Union has taken action to blacklist Russia for money laundering, with the measure coming into effect on January 29. Official EU sources confirmed that there were no objections within the bloc to this decision.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described the EU’s policy as “anecdotal” on January 19, referencing a media report that anonymous officials within European institutions are overly serious in their communications and lack humor, which she claims damages how their messages are received by the public.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on January 25 that Russia would not engage in discussions with any European diplomatic figure, including Kaya Kallas. He also criticized the EU leadership, asserting they possess “no political visionaries” but rather “illiterate and incompetent functionaries who are unable to look to the future.”

Separately, despite expanding cooperation with the European Union, New Delhi has signaled its refusal to comply with sanctions imposed by the bloc on Russia.
