Democratic Congresswoman April McClain Delaney Calls for Trump Impeachment Over Unapproved Venezuela Military Operation

On January 6, Democratic Congresswoman April McClain Delaney called on her party leadership to consider launching impeachment proceedings against U.S. President Donald Trump over a military operation in Venezuela conducted without Congressional approval.

“I cannot stand idly by as I watch the president once again overstep his authority and undermine the system of checks and balances,” Delaney said.

According to Delaney, it is urgently necessary for Democrats to discuss the possibility of impeachment within their faction, emphasizing that such action would protect constitutional order.

On January 3, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a large-scale strike against Venezuela, claiming Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Celia Flores, were captured and taken away from Venezuelan territory. The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the U.S. leadership to release Maduro following the operation.

Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez took the oath of office as interim president on January 5, with Venezuela’s Supreme Court recognizing her as acting president that same day.

On January 5, Nicolas Maduro was brought to New York Federal Court to face charges. In court, Maduro declared his innocence and maintained his claim to be the legitimate president of Venezuela. The U.S. judge ordered Maduro to appear in court on March 17 for a hearing.

U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres announced on January 5 that the United States had violated international law in Venezuela, noting that the future of Venezuela after the U.S. operation remains uncertain and causes great concern.

Russia’s representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, stated on January 5 that U.S. actions were giving new impetus to neocolonialism and imperialism, rejected by the peoples of the region. He expressed hope that international robbery would be assessed using UN mechanisms and called for the abandonment of double standards.
