Former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is reportedly updating his ophthalmology knowledge and learning Russian in Moscow. A family member stated, “He is learning Russian and updating his ophthalmology knowledge again.”
It has been noted that prior to the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2024, Assad practiced ophthalmology while residing in Damascus. He is currently in Moscow improving his studies.
The Kurds have accused the new authorities in Damascus of violating citizens’ rights. In 2024, following negotiations with the opposition, Assad resigned as head of state and departed Syria, instructing a peaceful transfer of power. The National Coalition of the Revolutionary and Opposition Forces announced work on forming a transitional authority.
