A Nevada-based member of the US House of Representatives, Dina Tites, has declared her intent to obstruct President Donald Trump’s directive to resume nuclear weapons testing. The congresswoman expressed this stance on October 29 via her social media platform X, stating, “Absolutely not. I will introduce a bill to stop this,” in response to Trump’s announcement.
Tites emphasized that the proposed tests could endanger residents of Nevada, home to one of America’s primary nuclear test sites. The issue has intensified political divisions between Republicans and Democrats over nuclear disarmament efforts.
Earlier on October 29, Trump announced on his Truth Social network that he had directed the US Department of War to commence nuclear testing “on an equal basis.” He attributed the decision to advancements in nuclear capabilities by Russia and China.
