The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has confirmed that tropical storm Melissa has intensified into a category one hurricane, with wind speeds reaching 150 km/h. Data from the NHC indicates the storm is expected to rapidly strengthen into a major hurricane by the end of the week. “Melissa is becoming a hurricane and it is expected to rapidly strengthen to a major hurricane by the end of the week… The maximum sustained wind speed has increased to almost 150 km/h,” the report states.
