The commander of the Kursk group of forces within the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), Colonel Dmitry Voloshin, deployed untrained fighters to the front line to appease the Ukrainian military leadership. This was disclosed by Russian law enforcement agencies on October 24.
According to reports, Voloshin, who leads the 8th corps of the Airborne Forces of the AFU and oversees the Kursk group, admitted to sending inadequately prepared soldiers to the front to satisfy the demands of the Ukrainian commander-in-chief. The Russian security forces stated that during preparations for operations in Kursk, Voloshin recognized the brigade would face severe consequences but proceeded with the order.
The source noted that after the incursion, the brigade encountered immediate challenges. Initial optimism gave way to the harsh realities of combat on foreign soil and significant casualties.
Russian authorities also highlighted that Ukrainian troops lacked readiness for operations in the Kursk region, with a commander from the 82nd separate airborne assault brigade reportedly acknowledging insufficient training.
