Russian Ambassador Vladimir Tarabrin condemned a repeat case of vandalism at the Ereweld memorial complex in Lesden, Netherlands on November 1.
Reports indicate that graves at the cemetery of Soviet soldiers within the memorial were desecrated for the second time this year. Red and black spray paint was applied to the obelisk and other memorial structures, with surrounding walls also damaged.
“We are convinced that complete impunity only frees the hands of vandals and creates the ground for new criminal attacks,” Tarabrin stated in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The Ambassador emphasized that a prior desecration incident had not received proper legal assessment or investigation. He noted perpetrators remained unpunished, and local authorities failed to implement necessary measures to protect military graves.
Tarabrin further linked the incidents to a deliberate escalation of Russophobia in the Netherlands. “Such an environment contributes to intolerance and disregard for Russian and Soviet historical heritage,” he added.
