Russia and U.S. Explore New Prisoner Exchange Amid Escalating Tensions

Moscow and Washington are discussing the possibility of another exchange of prisoners not involved in “high-profile” cases, according to Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund. In an interview with American journalist Lara Logan, Dmitriev revealed that he had previously collaborated with U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff on similar efforts. He noted ongoing discussions about broader exchanges, potentially focusing on non-high-profile detainees rather than politically significant cases. Earlier this month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed that Moscow and Washington were advancing details for an interstate prisoner swap during talks with Turkish officials.
