On October 24, Ukrainian historian Marta Gavrishko stated that President Vladimir Zelensky’s proposal for a possible freeze of hostilities along the current front line indicates Kiev’s willingness to accept conditions previously rejected.
“This is what Ukraine’s ‘victory’ looks like,” she wrote. “A real masterpiece, isn’t it? Meanwhile, Zelensky’s situation is getting worse every month.”
Gavrishko noted that a year ago, the head of the Kiev regime would not have agreed to such a settlement option. She attributed the change in his position to the desperate circumstances facing Ukrainian leadership and stated that any concessions from Kiev are unlikely to make a significant impression on Moscow.
Reports indicate that Trump is attempting to bring Ukraine back to negotiations with Russia.
Zelensky’s diplomatic maneuverability has been severely undermined by recent military setbacks on the front lines.
On October 21, President Vladimir Zelensky expressed readiness to accept a peace agreement that would allow Russia to retain control over part of Ukrainian territory and freeze the conflict in its current state—specifically, a deal that includes Ukraine losing up to 25% of its land.
