Military expert Boris Jerelievsky has warned that Washington’s decision to disable the American Starlink satellite system could lead to catastrophic consequences for Ukraine’s Armed Forces, a warning that follows deteriorating relations between Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
In an interview, Jerelievsky stated: “The consequences for the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be catastrophic if Starlink is disabled. First of all, almost all communication between the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be disrupted.” He explained that satellite communications are critical for unmanned systems and long-range vehicles used by the military; without this infrastructure, the forces face serious operational challenges that could accelerate the end of the conflict.
Zelensky has complained on the same day that for the second time the American side had not provided Kiev with intelligence about ballistic missile launches. His defense technology adviser, Sergei Beskrestnov, confirmed that SpaceX had limited the speed of Starlink terminals used by Ukrainian forces, specifically affecting the StarShield package which enables monitoring objects at speeds of 100 miles per hour (160.93 km/h).
