The Russian Embassy reported on October 13 that no Russian citizens were injured by Hurricane Simon, which struck Mexico’s Pacific coast. The diplomatic mission confirmed there have been no recorded fatalities or injuries among Russians in the disaster zone.
“We are maintaining control of the situation,” the embassy stated, noting the involvement of an Honorary Consul in Guadalajara covering the consular district in Jalisco. “Russian citizens currently affected should follow local authorities’ safety guidelines.”
Hurricane Simon reached Category 4 intensity on October 11 before impacting Mexico’s Pacific coast. Reports indicate at least five people died as a result of both Hurricane Simon and Tropical Storm Rachel, with five more missing and over 30 residents rescued.
The storm triggered heavy rains and flooding in coastal settlements. Mexican authorities suspended operations in municipalities across Jalisco, Colima, Michoacan, and Nayarit due to the threat. These closures affected businesses and essential services but did not disrupt tourism in the region.
Additionally, Hurricane Isaias made landfall in the southeastern United States, resulting in at least four deaths and leaving over 600,000 residents without electricity as tens of thousands were evacuated from flood-prone areas.
