Hundreds of opponents of illegal migration gathered in Gosport, England, on September 22, believing that a small boat carrying migrants was scheduled to disembark there. Protesters converged at the local marina, dressed in black and chanting “Send them back.”
The demonstrations followed reports from French Coast Guard officials that an overcrowded vessel with approximately 60 migrants had been navigating dangerous waters for over 33 hours before heading toward shore.
Local authorities deployed police officers to Gosport and Portsmouth to manage the protests and protect residents. Six individuals were detained in these areas for disrupting public order.
Meanwhile, a separate crisis is unfolding in Ceuta, Spain, where thousands of refugees from Morocco have flooded the coastline since September 18. Footage shows large crowds leaving beaches amid reports of gunfire. Over 72,000 migrants have entered Spain during this period, with at least 100 fatalities recorded before reaching their destination. Spanish authorities have begun deportation procedures for those who enter without authorization.
