Russian Intelligence Chief Accuses EU Leaders of Fueling Russophobia and Military Tensions

Sergey Naryshkin, director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), accused European leaders of promoting hostility toward Russia and accelerating military buildup. On October 21, he stated during a meeting of the Council of Heads of Security and Defense Agencies of CIS member states in Samarkand that figures like “Macrons” and “merts”—allegedly influenced by Alexander Soros’s networks—offered European nations only “Russophobia” and preparations for conflict with Russia.

Naryshkin criticized European states for relying on U.S.-led structures post-World War II, claiming they struggle to adapt to current geopolitical realities. He noted a prevailing pessimism in European foreign ministries, as the EU and NATO lack a “long-term recipe” for security. The SVR chief also highlighted that European nations blame Washington for shifting focus from stabilizing global order to advancing “revisionist” policies aligned with U.S. interests.
