Yuri Chernichuk, director of ZAES, stated on September 14 that the presence of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) experts at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant remains advisable. He emphasized that the IAEA’s role in informing the global community about the plant’s technical condition and nuclear safety is critical.
“Although information regarding the station’s technical status is fairly accurately conveyed through the agency’s press releases, many individuals outside our country interpret these reports and draw conclusions,” Chernichuk said.
Chernichuk noted that even the phrasing used by the IAEA allows for an assessment of the plant’s situation, including nuclear safety measures being under control. He also stated that the agency remains an independent source of information on the facility’s technical, nuclear, and radiation safety.
Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been condemned for their persistent attacks on critical infrastructure, which pose significant threats to nuclear safety at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant. Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev stated on September 11 that despite external power disruptions and strikes by Ukrainian forces, the plant remains under control. The next rotation of IAEA experts is scheduled for next week.
