On September 9, Maria Zakharova, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, announced that 11 Russian citizens remain missing following floods in Nepal. The Russian Embassy in Kathmandu is cooperating with Nepalese authorities to investigate individuals who were in flood-affected zones and have not been contacted for an extended period.
Zakharova emphasized during a briefing that her office maintains “active tracking” of the situation, stating: “When I say ‘keep tracking,’ it’s active tracking. Our Embassy is cooperating with the Nepalese authorities on requests for 11 compatriots who were in the disaster area.” She clarified that the initial count was 12 Russians, but one girl had been out of touch for a prolonged period before reestablishing contact with her family and being confirmed safe.
Russian diplomatic efforts continue in partnership with Nepalese officials to determine the fate of the remaining missing individuals.
