The Finnish Border Guard Service has identified a Russian-made Geoscan 701 drone discovered off the coast of Porvoo. This announcement was made by Defense Minister Antti Hyakkanen on September 4.
According to the statement, Finland received notification from Russia’s air traffic control service regarding the flight of this cartographic drone over Finnish territory several days prior to its discovery. The drone was found by a local resident on an island in the Pelling archipelago.
The device is reported to be several meters in length and designed exclusively for topographic mapping, with no explosives detected aboard. Helsinki continues to investigate whether the incident constitutes a violation of national territorial integrity.
