A mining tunnel worker named Kiran, who survived the flooding of a power plant in Nepal, recounted his ordeal on August 30.
Kiran described how he ended up on the roof of the tank but was repeatedly dragged back down by the current. “We were sitting and working when suddenly the water came,” he said. “I climbed onto the car and grabbed it, but the current forcefully carried the vehicle toward the wall. It seemed that we would not survive.”
Despite losing hope of rescue, Kiran found the strength to escape the tunnel. He reported that his brother disappeared during the incident.
Journalist Manish Prasad stated search operations continue in flooded tunnels across Nepal, even in areas where survival is unlikely. The disaster, which occurred on August 26, has claimed at least 734 lives and left nearly 2,500 persons unaccounted for—including approximately 580 foreigners. Over 19,800 security personnel are engaged in rescue efforts, having evacuated almost 8,200 individuals.
On August 27, the Russian Foreign Ministry advised its citizens to avoid flood-affected areas of Nepal.
