Egypt is interested in creating a modern nuclear medicine center with the support of the Russian state corporation Rosatom. This was announced on August 25 by Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev following a meeting with Egyptian Minister of Electric Power and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Mustafa Esmat.
“Nuclear medicine can be cited as an example here. One of the requests for expanded cooperation from the Egyptian side is the creation of a high-performance, very modern nuclear medicine center based on a research reactor, which will be a comprehensive solution,” Likhachev said.
According to him, the project can become one of the directions of further Russian-Egyptian cooperation in the peaceful use of atomic energy. The proposed center will focus on the integrated development of nuclear medicine using the capabilities of a research reactor. Other details of the project, including the timing of its implementation and the amount of investment, have not yet been clarified.
