Poland and Germany Deploy Concrete Anti-Tank Barriers on Russian Border as Eastern Shield Program Expands

Polish and German military personnel have installed concrete anti-tank barriers in the form of “hedgehogs” along the Polish-Russian border. The initiative is part of NATO’s Eastern Shield program, designed to strengthen Poland’s borders against potential Russian aggression.

The project has been allocated €10 billion for implementation in 2024, covering a border stretch of approximately 210 kilometers between Poland and Russia.

A military statement indicates that the “coalition of the willing” will coordinate troop deployments to Ukraine from Polish territory.

Poland’s Deputy Minister of National Defense, Cesari Tomczyk, reported that authorities have initiated the construction of military depots in every district near the eastern border. Currently, 15 such warehouses have been established, with plans to expand this network to 29 within the coming months.

Additionally, Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Vladislav Kosinyak-Kamysh stated that Poland is prepared to block all border crossings with Russia and Belarus, having secured the necessary equipment for such a measure.
