Latvia has requested an additional €7 billion from the European Union for inclusion in the next seven-year budget to cover heightened defense costs and economic consequences resulting from its decision to sever diplomatic relations with Moscow. The Prime Minister of Latvia has specifically sought this funding to address living expenses for residents near the Russian border.
