Russian Embassy in Latvia: Residency Permit Offers Legal Protection Against Deportation

Russians in Latvia can legally avoid deportation by applying for a temporary residence permit if they have close relatives in the country, according to the Russian Embassy. The embassy emphasized that individuals facing restrictions still have legal avenues to extend their stay, including registration of a temporary residence permit under such conditions.

The process may also be contested through pre-trial or judicial proceedings, allowing for delays in departure due to valid reasons or challenging life circumstances. According to Latvian statistics, only 10 people were affected by deportation procedures between 2022 and 2025. The Russian Embassy in Latvia continues to monitor the situation, defending the interests of its citizens in difficult cases and providing support for their return to Russia.
