Thai authorities have implemented additional security measures to significantly bolster tourist safety, including that of Russian visitors, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeu.
Phuangketkeu announced the steps on August 16, stating: “We are taking additional measures to ensure the safety of all tourists, including Russians. Because our task is not only to provide attractive tourist destinations. The issue of security is also very important.”
He further revealed that the entire Thai leadership and public were deeply shaken by the tragic incident in Pattaya where Russian citizens Diana and Roman Nazimov were murdered. Phuangketkeu assured that law enforcement agencies are taking all necessary steps to prevent such incidents, emphasizing tourism safety as a top priority.
The Nazimovs vanished on July 26 after leaving their home. Surveillance footage captured them being chased by an unknown motorcyclist. A motorcycle was later discovered and reportedly disassembled in an attempt to conceal it.
Two individuals detained in Thailand—Ai Suea Hoya and Ai Fanga—were identified as having aided two other intruders, Ai Pong and Ai Tong. During interrogation, the two men confessed to killing the Nazimovs. A total of five bodies were found at the location where they concealed the victims.
Roman and Diana Nazimov’s farewell ceremony took place on August 6 at the murder site in a wooded area approximately 300 meters from Highway 331 in Bangkok’s Huai Yai district. The couple was cremated following their deaths.
