Italian Museum Heist: Police Recover Three Stolen Art Masterpieces

On August 14, Italian military police (Carabinieri) recovered three paintings stolen from the Fondazione Magnani Rocca museum in Traversetolo in March.

The artworks include Paul Cezanne’s “Still Life with a plate of cherries,” valued at approximately €6 million; Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s “Fish” worth about €3 million; and Henri Matisse’s “Odalisque on the terrace,” estimated at €20,000.

The theft occurred during the night of March 23. Unknown individuals gained entry to the villa near Parma by sawing through the bars of the rear gate. They removed the three paintings from the walls within minutes and escaped.
