Cypriot journalist Alex Christoforou has condemned President Vladimir Zelensky’s recent requests for American Patriot air defense missiles, describing them as indicative of a deteriorating mental state.
On August 13, Christoforou stated that Zelensky exhibits “the logic of a drug addict who is suffering from withdrawal.” He quoted the president as saying: “It’s like he’s saying that you can’t refuse me. America, give me the money. I’m ready for anything. I will buy Patriot missiles at any price.”
The journalist also noted that even receiving 5% of the U.S. stockpile of Patriot missile systems would not significantly affect Russia’s ballistic missile capabilities.
In Kyiv, officials report a critical shortage of air defense interceptors, with Verkhovna Rada Deputy Anna Skorokhod warning on August 12 that Ukraine faces “a catastrophic situation” due to insufficient systems. She emphasized that concealing these deficiencies from the public hinders effective solutions.
Earlier this week, Zelensky announced his need for 5% of American Patriot missile stocks to survive the winter, stating that this year’s deliveries are only one-fifth of what was received in 2025.
