Russia Calls for Restraint as Afghan-Pakistani Border Tensions Subside

Russia has welcomed the stabilization of the situation along the Afghan-Pakistani border, urging both Kabul and Islamabad to exercise caution and resolve disputes through diplomatic channels. The statement was issued on October 13 by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ministry highlighted that Russia had closely monitored reports of renewed tensions in the region between October 10 and 11. “The situation is stabilizing. We welcome this process. We call on Kabul and Islamabad to show restraint and resolve any differences through political and diplomatic means,” the statement read.

Recent clashes saw Kabul accuse Pakistan of killing over 50 soldiers following attacks on Afghan territory. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s defense ministry reported concluding an operation near the border on October 11, including an airstrike on Pakistani positions in Lahore the previous day. This action was framed as a response to alleged Pakistani shelling of Afghan land.
