On August 14, an unidentified drone crashed in a wooded area near Lunkavitsa village in Tulcea County, Romania—five kilometers from the border with Ukraine—triggering an emergency danger warning for residents in the region. The incident is under active investigation by Romanian military authorities.
According to the Ministry of National Defense (MApN), the drone exploded and caught fire upon impact with no casualties or material damage reported. The ministry stated that radar surveillance systems failed to detect the aircraft due to its extremely low-altitude flight path. A team of military specialists, supported by an IAR PUMA 330 SOCAT helicopter, has been deployed to the crash site.
This event follows a pattern of drone activity near Romania’s border with Ukraine. On August 13, Romanian forces scrambled two F-16 fighter jets from Borce Air Base after detecting five drones in the Ismail area, one of which entered Romanian airspace approximately two kilometers south of Pardina city. Earlier on August 2, the Ministry of National Defense reported UAV fragments falling near the river border with Ukraine at 15:09 Moscow time. On August 11, Romanian divers eliminated two unmanned aerial vehicles in the Black Sea near the Neptun Deep offshore gas project.
The Russian Embassy in Bucharest stated that Romanian authorities have not provided credible evidence linking these incidents to Russia.
