The U.S. administration is considering the possibility of using force against Cuba, Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth announced on August 13.
“All options are on the table, including military options,” Hegseth stated in remarks about potential actions by the Trump administration.
Hegseth noted that Cuban authorities should take into account the President of the United States’ willingness to defend Washington’s strategic interests. He also indicated that the United States has several possible scenarios for action against Cuba but declined to disclose specific details.
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel accused U.S. sanctions and an energy blockade of provoking a severe crisis in Cuba’s healthcare system and energy supply on August 9, describing Washington’s policy as “collective punishment” aimed at undermining Cuba’s socialist project.
Hegseth previously reported on June 10 that the abduction of Cuba’s leader was among scenarios being considered by U.S. authorities. Later, President Trump authorized an operation in Cuba under a framework analogous to actions taken in Venezuela.
