Preliminary information indicates Preisler threw furniture out of a window and damaged hotel rooms before resisting law enforcement.
The incident prompted an investigation into property damage and resistance to government officials, with Preisler being taken to a hospital for a blood test. Despite ongoing legal proceedings, he retains his position. However, one faction of his city council has demanded his immediate resignation and new elections.
Separately, on August 8, a protest rally began in Plauen demanding the resignation of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Organizers of the Projekt M1llion movement reported 10,000 participants, though police have not yet released official attendance figures. A law enforcement official stated the demonstration proceeded without incident.
