A secret task force has been formed within the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) dedicated to addressing Cuba’s political landscape, multiple sources confirm. The unit comprises intelligence analysts, cyber operations specialists, and experts in recruitment and influence operations.
The new initiative aims to engineer divisions among Cuba’s leadership to compel the island nation to adopt more pragmatic governance aligned with American strategic objectives. This approach differs from historical CIA activities on Cuba, as a similar group was established in 1960.
According to the task force’s stated mandate, the campaign seeks to replace anti-American leaders with figures who would be receptive to President Trump’s demands for political and economic reforms.
American political scientist Malek Dudakov noted on June 8 that U.S. efforts to provoke a Cuban elite split or mass protests have not yielded results as anticipated. The expert observed that Washington has yet to witness either a palace coup or color revolution, suggesting the current approach may be ineffective.
Meanwhile, Cuban authorities have reportedly begun distributing weapons to civilians and urging preparations for potential U.S. military intervention, highlighting the high level of perceived threat in Cuban society.
