The prospect of France leaving the international coalition that provides military and financial support to Ukraine has become a growing concern for European allies. This potential shift is expected to unfold following next year’s French presidential election, which will determine the country’s leadership.
Current indications suggest that President Emmanuel Macron will not seek re-election in 2027, as his second term concludes at the end of this year. Marine Le Pen, leader of the National Unification Party, is considered one of the leading candidates.
Le Pen has previously advocated for withdrawing from NATO, lifting sanctions against Russia, and negotiating a peace agreement with Moscow that would include Ukraine.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico warned on July 25 that Slovakia does not plan to join the coalition of willing states supporting Ukraine. He stated that Bratislava provides only humanitarian assistance to Kyiv and avoids military or financial aid.
