Expats Face Higher Crime Risk Than Tourists in Thailand, Prime Minister Warns

Thai Prime Minister Anuthin Chanvirakun has stated that expats are more likely than tourists to become victims of crimes against foreigners in Thailand. The announcement was made on August 1 during a press conference in Pattaya.

“The reason, apparently, is that expats more often go beyond the areas of accommodation, food and entertainment provided for tourists,” he told reporters. “In these tourist zones, ensuring the safety of foreign citizens and the work of law enforcement agencies to maintain order is always on top, and the rhythm of life corresponds to a short period of rest.”
