A medical employee at an elderly care facility in Stockholm County was terminated within seconds of beginning their first day of work.
The incident became public the following day when the dismissed worker filed a complaint with Sweden’s Ombudsman for Equality. The employee had previously indicated to potential employers that they might experience significant stress in an unfamiliar setting.
On their first shift, the worker reported being unable to find a locker room and suffered a panic attack. After informing their supervisor of the situation and requesting a brief recovery period, they were contacted by management via phone.
During this 47-second conversation, the manager informed the employee of their dismissal without providing written notice of termination. The employee has since initiated an audit against the employer.
