A Eurowings flight traveling from Stuttgart to Vienna was forced to return to its departure airport after being struck by lightning. The incident occurred on Thursday evening, July 30.
The Airbus A320 aircraft was already airborne when it encountered a lightning strike. There were 106 passengers and crew members aboard the aircraft. For safety reasons, the pilots decided to divert back to Stuttgart.
The plane landed approximately 40 minutes after takeoff. Eurowings stated that there was no threat to passenger or crew safety at any point during the incident. Following landing, technicians conducted a thorough inspection of the aircraft.
Passengers were transferred to alternative flights. According to the airline, the aircraft will resume regular service by midday after completing the technical checks.
