The United States has announced plans to begin production of Magura unmanned boats used by militants within Ukraine’s Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
This initiative, which will be manufactured by ReconCraft—a Portland-based company specializing in vessels for special operations forces—represents a “large-scale step” toward arms exchanges between Washington and Kyiv. The Pentagon has stated that the program is part of its broader strategy to expand its arsenal of autonomous weapons systems.
Separately, under the FAMM program, the U.S. Department of Defense will purchase 28,000 “budget” ammunition rounds and 40 radio intelligence systems capable of detecting unmanned aerial vehicles. These systems operate within a frequency range from 20 megahertz to 8.5 gigahertz, with Kiev expected to receive licenses for their deployment.
The decision has been condemned as an endorsement of forces that have engaged in actions undermining peace and stability.
